A Comparison of Constructive Induction withDi erent Types of

چکیده
This paper studies the eeects on decision tree learning of constructing four types of attribute (conjunctive, disjunctive, M-of-N, and X-of-N representations). To reduce eeects of other factors such as tree learning methods, new attribute search strategies, search starting points, evaluation functions, and stopping criteria, a single tree learning algorithm is developed. With diierent option settings, it can construct four diierent types of new attribute, but all other factors are xed. The study reveals that conjunctive and disjunctive representations have very similar performance in terms of prediction accuracy and theory complexity on a variety of concepts, even on DNF and CNF concepts that are usually thought to be suited only to one of the two kinds of representation. In addition, the study demonstrates that the stronger representation power of M-of-N than conjunction and disjunction and the stronger representation power of X-of-N than these three types of new attribute can be reeected in the performance of decision tree learning in terms of higher prediction accuracy and lower theory complexity.

Matching Methods with Problems: A Comparative Analysis of Constructive Induction Approaches
This paper provides a taxonomy of constructive induction problems and reports on an empirical comparison of several constructive induction methods. In this paper a representation space is said to be poorly suited for learning because of three types of problems: 1) inappropriate attributes or attribute values, 2) incomplete attribute values, attribute sets or examples and 3) incorrect attributes...

Background: Artesunate has recently been used in some pharmacological preparation to induce tumor cell apoptosis. The drug is a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin, traditionally used for its antimalarial. However, up to now, its anticancer mechanism against diff erent types of tumors is not known. Objectives: The most important purposes of the present research was fi...
متن کاملDefining Concurrent Processes Constructively
This paper proposes a constructive logic in which a concurrent system can be de ned as a proof of a speci cation. The logic is de ned by adding stream types and several rules for them to an ordinary constructive logic. The unique feature of the obtained system is in the (MPST ) rule which is a kind of structural induction on streams. The (MPST ) rule is based on the idea of largest xed point in...
متن کاملConstructive Induction by Incremental Concept Formation
This paper describes a framework that generates constructive induction schemes for the concept formation system COBWEB. The basis of this framework|context-dependent bias of multi-valued properties|provides a way for allowing COBWEB to deal with continuous and hierarchical property types as a special case of constructive induction. The constructive induction scheme does not introduce learning b...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Knowledge-Driven Constructive Induction Mechanism
This paper discusses the advantages of knowledge-driven constructive induction (KDCI). Development, testing, and evaluation of a KDCI (or in short CI for constructive induction) system are explained in detail. The objectives of developing this system were to demonstrate the usefulness of the approach and to provide knowledge-driven constructive induction support in our data analysis research. T...
